Seven Department of Agronomy and Horticulture faculty members were honored for their outstanding support to students during the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Parents’ Recognition Awards ceremony March 6 in the Willa Cather Dining Complex.

In December, the UNL Parents Association solicited parents of university students to consult with their student(s), and to nominate a faculty or staff member who has made a significant contribution to their lives while at the university.

The awards provide positive feedback to campus faculty and staff about the work they do with students. The honor also encourages the goal of good student and faculty relationships and provides recognition in an area often overlooked in the formal rewards system.

A Certificate of Recognition for Contribution to Students was given to Mark Canney, Christian Elowsky, David Holding, David Lambe, Donald Lee, Walter Schacht and Kim Todd. Canney, a lecturer, and Holding, an associate professor, are first-time awardees. Elowsky, assistant professor of practice, and Schacht, a professor and Grassland Studies interim director, both received second-time honors. Lambe, an associate professor of practice, received his ninth award. Lee, a professor, was honored for the 27th time. Todd, associate professor and extension horticulture specialist, was given her 13th certificate.

The Parents’ Recognition Award and ceremony are organized by the Division of Student Affairs and co-sponsored by the UNL Teaching Council and UNL Parents Association.
