Overview:
The Lancaster County Engineering Department is seeking interns to start in spring or summer 2023. As a student intern, you will assist technical, engineering, and survey staff on county projects and day-to-day tasks. This position includes both office and fieldwork.
Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and reviewing roadway and drainage construction and maintenance plans.
Assist with subdivision inspections.
Assist in preparing permit applications.
Perform inspection of construction projects to ensure the projects are built according to the plans and specifications.
Perform surveying work as a member of a survey crew.
Observe work in progress, traversing varied terrain as needed.
Operate a variety of surveying equipment to determine elevations, alignments, and distances.
Maintain vehicles, tools, equipment, and office area in a safe working order.
Minimum Qualifications:
Coursework in surveying and computer-aided drafting
Possess problem-solving skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Technical writing skills
Microsoft Office Suite experience
Able to access all points of a construction site
Preferred Qualifications
300 level coursework in hydraulics or transportation
Experience with MicroStation and GEOPAK software
A prior engineering internship experience is a plus
About the Lancaster County Engineering Department
The Lancaster County Engineering Department is responsible for most of the roads and land outside the city limits of Lincoln. We provide maintenance and engineering services to over 1,300 miles of road, thousands of hydraulic drainage structures (culverts and bridges), and housing subdivisions. Our organization is comprised of civil engineers, design technicians, inspectors, surveyors, and operations personnel.
