Korff School alum to be inducted into NMEA Hall of Fame

Lance D. Nielsen (B.S.Ed. 1991, M.M. 1998, Ph.D. 2011) will be inducted into the Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) Hall of Fame during the NMEA banquet on Nov. 17. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the most prestigious award bestowed to NMEA members.

Nielsen is the Supervisor of Music for Lincoln Public Schools, where he supervises all music programs K-12, and a member of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts’ Alumni Board.

Prior to becoming an administrator, Nielsen taught for 23 years in both public schools and higher education. His teaching appointments included Associate Professor of Music at Doane University, instrumental music teacher at Lincoln East High School, Norris Public Schools and Kimball Public Schools in Nebraska. He continues to serve as an adjunct professor for Doane University teaching online music courses.

He is currently North Central Division Immediate Past-President and Chair of NAfME Professional Development Committee and has served as President of the Nebraska Music Educators Association, NAfME National Tri-M Chair and NMEA Chair of Band Affairs. He serves on various boards including the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.

He is a frequent presenter at music conferences and has published articles in Music Educators Journal, Teaching Music, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the ISTE Leading with Innovations journal.
