Geography Awareness Week is Nov. 14-18

Geography Awareness Week is Nov. 14-18 and will feature talks by Paul Sutton from the University of Denver, a presentation by the authors of the newly released "Atlas of the Great Plains," the ever-popular Geography Bowl, a student photo contest and more.

Sutton will present "The Real Wealth of Nations: Mapping and Monetizing the Human Ecological Footprint" at 3:30 p.m., Nov. 15 in the Hardin Hall auditorium. He will also present "The Earth from Space at Night: Explorations of the Human-Environment-Sustainability Problematic Using Nighttime Satellite Imagery" at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 16 in 901 Hardin Hall.

UNL geography Clark Archer will join University of Oklahoma geographer Fred Shelley for a special seminar, "Creating the Atlas of the Great Plains" at 3:30 p.m., in the Great Plains Art Museum.

The talks are part of the celebration of Geography Awareness Week, which is organized by the Geography Student Association. A geography bowl will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Nov. 17 in the Hardin Hall auditorium. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will also be awarded.

The week will conclude with an awards ceremony for the student photo competition at 2 p.m., Nov. 18 in 228 Hardin Hall. Prizes will be presented to the first, second and third place entries as decided by the judges and student vote. Photos will be on display all week in the first floor lobby of Hardin Hall.
