Faculty recognized as distance education pioneers

Two members of UNL faculty were recognized as Distance Education Pioneers during the campus-wide celebration of National Distance Learning Week Nov. 16-18.

Larry Dlugosh, professor and Department of Educational Administration chair and Mike Riley, professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, were honored for their contributions to the campus community in the area of online and distance education.

Also recognized during the week were faculty and instructors who received online course development and funding through the Office of Extended Education and Outreach in 2010. Grants totaling $189,000 were awarded this spring and fall to various departments for the development of new and revised online courses that support approved online UNL programs.

UNL has provided distance education for more than 100 years.
