Diplomat to address U.N.'s role in human rights, fundamental freedoms

Ambassador Peter Jankowitsch will address faculty, staff and students at noon April 19 in the College of Law's Hamann Auditorium. He will discuss "The Current Role of the United Nations in Shaping a New World Order Based on the Respect for International Law and Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms."

Jankowitsch is an Austrian diplomat and politician who studied law and political science at the University of Vienna and the Hague Academy of International Law. He served as an Austrian delegate to various United Nations bodies including the General Assembly, the Security Council and the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea.

Jankowitsch is former foreign minister of Austria, served as chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He also served as president of the Austrian space agency.
