OASIS hosts Día de los Muertos celebration Nov. 4

The Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services will host a Día de los Muertos celebration at 6:15 p.m., Nov. 4 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room. The event includes include a performance by Mariachi Zapata, a traditional mariachi band from Omaha. The celebration is free and open to the public.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and by other cultures around the world. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray and to remember those who have died. The celebrations can be traced back to indigenous cultures 2,500 to 3,000 years ago.
