Welcome to the spring edition of the PGA Golf Management’s newsletter coming to you straight from Keim Hall on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln!

There are so many exciting happenings taking place on campus this spring that I don’t know where to start. So first and foremost, I want to direct you to the article highlighting our colleague Pam Murray.

Pam recently retired from UNL on January 31, 2017 and while we knew she would be missed we did not realize how much until she actually stopped coming in to 203 Keim Hall. As you may know, Pam was a tremendous asset to our program and even a greater asset to the Center for Grassland Studies and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Her attention to detail was exquisite and will be sorely missed.

Also within our spring newsletter you will find extensive information about our students in the program including our students making the Dean’s List for the fall semester, the activities and events occurring with the Student Club, an update on our time at the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show, and many results of our club tournaments, the CONE Cup, the Jones Cup, and information about our December graduates from the program. As they say in the PGA and LPGA Tours...these guys and gals are good! Spring has started on some strong footing so look for more information about our PGA golf management students in our summer newsletter coming out in June of this year.

Concerning our alumni out in the profession, you will find the concluding article on alumnus Nick Sage and his fantastic experiences with the Ryder Cup hosted by Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Nick did a three-part series on his prep, the implementation, and the conclusion of the 2016 Ryder Cup. You can go back and read the first two articles submitted by Nick if you missed them. Thank you Nick for sharing all your experiences, lessons, and insights related to the 2016 Ryder Cup. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any PGA professional especially when it happens to be one of our program graduates. Congratulations Nick!

You will also read about the journey and experiences of PGA professional Jon Moore (Class of 2009) in this edition of our newsletter. With Jon being in Omaha, he has traveled to Lincoln to talk with our students during a club meeting a time or two. For our students currently in the program, it is great to have students hear from our alumni and their various experiences as being a PGA professional in our industry. Thank you Jon!

New in this newsletter, we are highlighting a member of our External Advisory Committee for the PGA Golf Management Program. I would encourage you to read about Laura Fredericks-Saf who has been active on the committee since the inception of the program here at UNL. Laura continues to be a great friend of the program and a tremendous asset during our discussions about the curriculum, the internships, and how to recruit more young women and men to UNL’s PGA Golf Management Program. When you read about Laura’s background, you too will understand what her presence on the committee means to us here on campus. All I can say is…WOW!

In conclusion, there is more information about our upcoming Inaugural Alumni Celebration coming up on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23 this fall. Yes Pam…you will receive an official invitation to attend our celebration. As a VIP, you will probably have a front row seat to our activities and events for this fun and exciting event. For the rest of you (including all alumni and friends of the program), you will receive additional information on how to register for the event and a listing of all the activities that will be happening for two days in late September.

For now, enjoy the spring edition of the program’s newsletter and if you are ever in the East Campus area, please stop by for a tour, a soda, or an ice cream cone from our famous Dairy Store at UNL.

Fairways and Greens!
