The Jones Cup took place in Port St Lucie, Florida on November 1-2, 2016. The PGA of America hosts the tournament at the PGA Golf Club on the Wanamaker Course each year and subsidizes the golf and housing.
The PGA Tournament staff sets up and runs the tournament which provides for a first class event that acts as the Championship for the PGA accredited schools. The PGA Golf Club had recently finished a renovation of the golf courses and just re-opened the clubhouse which hosted the players welcome dinner on Sunday evening featuring PGA president Paul Levy. We also had lunch and the awards banquet Tuesday after the tournament in the clubhouse.
The team consisted of Brad Bailey, Aaron Hart, Zach Gleysteen, Jacob Frodyma and Kramer Samuelson. Scott Holly, internship coordinator, traveled with the team to this year's Jones Cup. The team was able to arrive in Florida a couple of days early to play a few practice rounds to get used to the climate and the Bermuda grass. Brad Bailey and Kramer Samuelson shot two over (146) and 3 over (147) for the championship finishing in the top ten individually, while as a team we finished 16th/19.
Overall it was a great experience for the students as they were able to play and interact with PGA Golf Management students from the other accredited schools and interact with the PGA of America staff and leadership.
