The 9th annual CONE Cup was hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma's PGA Golf Management Program in Edmond, Oklahoma on October 8-9, 2016. University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) each had 14 students compete in the Ryder Cup style event. Day one consisted of four-ball matches at Belmar Golf Club in Norman and day two were the single matches at Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond.
Friday evening we all met at Hideway Pizza (the best pizza in Oklahoma) for dinner and a pairings party. After the four-ball matches on Saturday, we were up 4 to 3 to UCO. Although we had a 1-point lead going into the second day, we were playing the single matches on UCO's home course. Fortunately, we were able win the single matches (7.5 to 6.5) on Sunday and won back the Cup 11.5 to 9.5. As a note, each person on the team earned at least a half point or more for the team. The record for the CONE Cup now stands as CO-5 and NE-4.
Members of Team Nebraska included Jake Frodyma, Cordell Weber, Aaron Hart, Trenton Peterson, Blake Schroeder, Zach Davis, Brandon LeBental, Kramer Samuelson, Zach Gleysteen (captain), Hunter Quinn, Nate Vaughn, Zach Sachen, Brad Bailey, Al Peterson III, and Brenden Miller (coach).
Next fall, UCO we will be traveling north to play us in Lincoln for the 10th annual CONE Cup. We would more than welcome any spectators who want to travel on their own to Lincoln and support Team Nebraska. The preliminary dates are September 30 and October 1, 2017.
