Lincoln, Neb., January 7th, 2004 — In view of the success of Spirit, the Mars exploration rover, Mueller Planetarium at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will add updates of the latest images and information from Spirit to its Mars planetarium shows this month.

The shows will be presented at 2 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through January. In the update portion of the planetarium show, there will be a live discussion of images and material released through the Mars Visualization Alliance. The alliance is a group of more than 70 museums and planetariums (including Mueller Planetarium) formed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to assist in explaining and presenting the results of the Mars rover missions to the public.

"All within the astronomical community are excited by the results so far, which promise better imagery than we've ever had before in the history of Mars exploration," said Jack Dunn, coordinator of Mueller Planetarium. "We are excited by the opportunity to share more about Mars with the public."

A second Mars rover is scheduled to land on Jan. 24 and Dunn said information from it will be shared in the same manner, including in February when the planetarium presents a new astronomy show, "Ring World."

Admission to planetarium astronomy shows is $6 for adults and $4 for all children and UNL students and sold at the front desk of the NU State Museum, 14th and U streets on the UNL City Campus. The ticket price includes admission to the museum.
