Lincoln, Neb., Feb. 24, 2004 -- Students from area middle schools will receive a dynamic and hands-on introduction to engineering March 2 at the fifth annual Discover Engineering Day, presented by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and Technology.

The program will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cook Pavilion, 14th and W streets on the UNL City Campus.

Activities will allow students to apply math, science and creative thinking skills to fun activities. Previous years' activities have included balloon races, ping pong ball catapult launches and the building of simple series circuits. "Discover Engineering is an excellent opportunity to expose kids to engineering and show them that fun can be applied to theory and vice-versa," said 2003 student volunteer Angela Dunn.

There is no cost to attend Discover Engineering Day and a free lunch will be provided to students and teachers who register by the Feb. 27 deadline. Lunch will also be available for $5 to parents who attend.
