UNL's Juanita Page Wins 2nd National Forensics Championship

University of Nebraska-Lincoln student Juanita Page brought home her second consecutive national title from the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament held April 3-5 at California State University, Long Beach.
Page, a senior broadcast journalism major and speech minor from Omaha, won a national championship with first place in the Informative Speaking category with her speech on the "Genetics of Racial Evolution."
She also placed fourth overall in individual sweeps, which combines scores from all entered events. In 2003, Page won a national championship in a Program of Oral Interpretation. The 2004 win makes her the first person to win championships in both categories.
The UNL forensics team finished 11th overall in a field of 113 teams. Other high individual placements were: Page, fourth place, Poetry Interpretation; Page, semifinalist, Program of Oral Interpretation; Page and Todd West (Bellevue), semifinalists, Duo Interpretation; Kevin Tvrdy (Wahoo), semifinalist, Persuasive Speaking; Page, quarterfinalist, Dramatic Interpretation; and Anna Knier (Fargo, N.D.), quarterfinalist, Dramatic Interpretation.
UNL speech and debate has 30 active members; team members who competed at nationals were: Allan Brunt, Columbus; Adam Knowlton, Papillion; Dan Chevalier, Auburn; Stacy Fox, Harrison; Knier; Brittani Lewit, Papillion; Craig McGill, Wahoo; Cristina Musquiz, David City; Jill Mussack, Decatur; Page; Andrew Stewart, Murdock; Tvrdy; Sarah Weinert, Falls City; and West. The team is coached by Clayton Johnson, Blair Thompson, Kristi Gerding and Ryan Syrek.
