Lincoln, Neb., April 28th, 2004 —

Robert F. Diffendal Jr. has accepted appointment as editor for Great Plains Research, a social and natural sciences journal published by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Center for Great Plains Studies.

Diffendal brings his academic experience and knowledge of academic publishing to the journal, which he describes as an important interdisciplinary resource to scientists working in the Great Plains.

"Scientists today know the benefit and indeed vital need of working with colleagues on issues that may be outside our disciplines but related to our own areas of research," said Diffendal, emeritus professor and research geologist with UNL's Conservation and Survey Division.

Diffendal and his wife, Anne, a historian, recently published two guidebooks on the geology of the route traveled by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, "Lewis and Clark and the Geology of Nebraska," and "Lewis and Clark and the Geology of the Great Plains."

Great Plains Research is available for purchase or subscription from the Center for Great Plains Studies, (402) 472-3082.
