2,275 to Receive Degrees at May 8 Commencement Exercises

Approximately 2,275 students are scheduled to receive degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in commencement exercises beginning at 9:30 a.m. May 8 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Chancellor Harvey Perlman will preside at the ceremonies. Honorary doctor of science degrees will be awarded to the two commencement speakers, Nobel Prize winner Paul Berg and Maxine Singer, co-authors of a 2003 biography of Nebraska graduate and Nobel winner George W. Beadle, "George Beadle, an Uncommon Farmer: The Emergence of Genetics in the 20th Century."
In addition, Mark Gustafson of Mead will receive the Builders Award from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, and Art Mastera of Aurora, Colo., will receive the Nebraska Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Award.
The graduates hail from 43 states, 37 countries and the U.S. overseas territories of Guam and Puerto Rico.
The College of Law will have a separate graduation ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 301 N. 12th St. Dean Steven Willborn will preside and U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) will speak.
A list of graduates is available at the link below as a Microsoft Word document. Information includes the graduate's name, college, degree and any applicable honors (degree with distinction, high distinction, highest distinction). Some graduates will receive degrees in programs offered on the UNL campus by the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. They are designated by UNMC or UNO in parentheses. UNO's honors terminology is cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude.
