The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has awarded New Nebraskan and Nebraska Legacy scholarships to more than 800 students. The scholarship winners are from 42 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
Scholarships for New Nebraskans were created in 1995 for the purpose of identifying and rewarding the most talented students from states other than Nebraska who choose to attend UNL. The scholarships are awarded based on transfer grade-point averages for transfer students or on academic accomplishments in high school and admissions test scores for 2004 high school graduates. New Nebraskan scholarships are awarded at three levels covering all or part of the differential between in-state and out-of-state tuition. For 30 credit hours in 2004-05, full tuition differential scholarships will be worth $8,490; those that cover 66 percent of the differential will be worth $5,604; and those that cover 25 percent of the differential will be worth $2,122.
The Nebraska Legacy Scholarship rewards the most talented students who are children of University of Nebraska graduates who reside in states other than Nebraska. This academic scholarship is in recognition of the student's transfer grade-point average or high school academic record and admission test scores, as well as the alumni relationship of his or her parent or parents with the University of Nebraska.
The scholars recognized with New Nebraskan and Nebraska Legacy scholarships join in-state scholarship winners as beneficiaries of UNL's commitment to academic excellence and to enrolling top student scholars. The scholarships are renewable if students remain nonresidents of Nebraska, are enrolled full time during each semester of the academic year, successfully complete at least 24 credit hours (including at least nine graded hours) each semester with requisite grade-point averages (2.0 for New Nebraskans, 3.0 for Nebraska Legacy).
