Dramatic changes have occurred recently in the practice of entertainment and intellectual property law, and a leading expert in the field will address those changes in a lecture Oct. 8 at the University of Nebraska College of Law.

Robin Mitchell Joyce, a member of the firm of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in Nashville, Tenn., will speak beginning at 12:10 p.m. in 112 Ross McCollum Hall, East Campus Loop and Fair Street. The lecture is free and open to the public and will highlight the effect of technology on the ways in which all industries now use and protect intellectual property.

Joyce practices in all areas of the entertainment industry, including music, film, television, legitimate theater and the representation of individual writers, artists, music, film and television producers and other entertainment executives. She also serves a widely diversified group of business clients in their intellectual property needs, including the development of global branding strategies and the acquisition and protection of copyrights, trademarks and service marks. In addition, she assists venture capital companies from around the country in gaining access to the entertainment industry and developing new entertainment projects.

A former assistant attorney general for the state of Tennessee, Joyce was founding chair of the Entertainment Section of the Nashville Bar Association and is an adjunct professor of entertainment law at Vanderbilt Law School. She serves on the boards of the Alliance of Artists and Record Companies, Leadership Music and the Nashville Film Festival, and is a past governor of the Nashville chapter of the Recording Academy. She is a frequent lecturer and panelist at national music industry events.
