Former top Rehnquist aide to discuss 'Issues Facing Supreme Court' Oct. 29

James C. Duff, former longtime aide to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, will speak Oct. 29 at the University of Nebraska College of Law on "Issues Facing the Supreme Court."

Duff's talk will begin at noon in 112 Ross McCollum Hall (Law College), East Campus Loop and Fair Street. It is free and open to the public.

Duff was Rehnquist's longest-serving administrative assistant and for four years was chief of staff and senior manager at the U.S. Supreme Court. He served as Rehnquist's liaison with Congress, the executive branch and various state and federal organizations involved in the administration of justice. He assisted Rehnquist in his roles as presiding officer of the presidential impeachment trial, chair of the Judicial Conference, chair of the Federal Judicial Center Board and chancellor of the Smithsonian Institution.

After leaving the employ of the Supreme Court, Duff became managing partner of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz P.C. in Washington, D.C. He oversees the firm's appellate practice and represents clients in public policy matter on Capitol Hill. In more than two decades of practice, he has litigated cases ranging from antitrust to employment discrimination to white-collar criminal defense.

Duff earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Kentucky and a juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. He is an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown teaching constitutional law.
