Lincoln, Neb., October 29th, 2004 —

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln recognized the living donors of scholarships to the college as well as the students who received those scholarships at its first Donor Appreciation Lunch on Oct. 15.

More than 45 donors and 90 students were recognized at the luncheon, which was held in the Lied Center for Performing Arts Orchestra Lobby. University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken was the keynote speaker at the event.

"Being a scholarship donor myself, I have found it to be so enjoyable for me to have had opportunities to meet and interact with those students who have benefited from the gift that I and my family have provided to my alma mater," said Giacomo M. Oliva, dean of the college. "In planning this luncheon, we hoped to create that same enjoyable experience for those who have supported our scholarship program over the years, and at the same time give the students an opportunity to say thank you for the support they have received. Judging from the spirit that prevailed throughout the event and the comments we have received since, our first attempt at this was a huge success."
