Lincoln, Neb., November 9th, 2004 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Economic Education will sponsor the 10th annual Economics Day for Students on Nov. 10. The event introduces the students to the importance of understanding economics in the world today.

Economics teachers from six high schools in southeast Nebraska have been invited to bring their classes to the Nebraska Union from 8:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. to listen to brief lectures by College of Business Administration economics professors, and take part in an informal panel discussion with student ambassadors. Lecture topics include "The Economics Major," "Current issues in International Economics," and "The Economics of Smoke-Free Laws." Some 130 students are expected from Seward, Norris, Lincoln High, Lincoln East and Parkview Christian.

"There should be some interesting discussions because the day is being held so soon after the elections, which consisted of many economics issues," said Tammie Fischer, director of the Center for Economic Education.

The first Economics Day for Students was in 1994, as the result of a grant from the National Science Foundation. Economics teachers who are earning master's degrees from UNL were invited to bring their students to campus to learn about the economics program at UNL.
