Lincoln, Neb., November 11th, 2004 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and Technology will host a "Nebraska Engineering Connects" event in Columbus Nov. 17.

The event is a way to "bring the college to Nebraska," said Steve Alvine of Alvine and Associates in Omaha and chair of the college's dean's advisory board. "We're really looking forward to meeting with people in Columbus and the surrounding areas and sharing with them some of the exciting things happening in the college."

The event will feature speakers from the Lincoln and Omaha campuses and will focus on research and educational opportunities. Other such events are planned throughout the state over the next year.

"We think people need to know more about the college," Alvine said. "It's a great place." Alvine is a 1981 graduate of mechanical engineering at UNL.

Nebraska Engineering Connects will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Dusters Restaurant, 2804 13th St. The event is sponsored by the Columbus chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers and Behlen Manufacturing. It is open to the public.
