Blair's Abby Woodring wins outstanding student design award

University of Nebraska-Lincoln student Abby Woodring, a junior from Blair, won the Outstanding Student Design Award last month at the 2004 International Textiles and Apparel Association annual meeting in Portland, Ore.
Woodring won the award for her piece, "Gown of Scarlet and Velvet." The award includes an all-expense-paid scholarship to study at the Paris American Design Academy in France.
In addition, Barbara Trout, associate professor of textiles, clothing and design and Woodring's faculty mentor, received the Alternate Outstanding Faculty Award for her work, "Windows Past and Present." Doctoral student Hong Youn Kim assisted Trout in the work.
Also in November, six undergraduate students in the UNL Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design won awards at the Kansas City Fashion Group International Career Day, a regional competition covering a four-state area. The winners included:
* MyKala Clancy, junior, Hastings, Special Selection Award, $500 scholarship;
* Jill Fellers, senior, Lincoln, second-place Original Design Award, $750 scholarship;
* Carrie Howard, senior, Kansas City, Mo., third-place Original Design Award, $500 scholarship;
* Megan McGhee, junior, Beatrice, first place, Design Board, $500 scholarship;
* Mandy Mohr, senior, Bennington, third-place, Original Design Award, $500 scholarship; and
* Taem Sonthana, sophomore, Lexington, Special Selection Award, $750 scholarship.
