The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Sociology has been honored with three awards in a report to the organization Sociologists for Women in Society.

In "Report Card on Gender- and Women-Friendly Sociology Departments," the UNL Sociology Department was given a "Seal of Approval for Faculty Gender Equity" as a department in which 40 percent or more of the faculty are women; a "Seal of Approval for Gender Scholarship" as a department in which 25 percent or more of the faculty specialize in gender or inequality scholarship; and an "SWS Stamp of Excellence" as a department meeting both standards. In the latter category, the UNL department was the highest-ranked among sociology departments listed in the top 60 nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

The "Report Card" was compiled by a team led by Sharon Hays and Barbara Risman of the University of Virginia.
