The University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music will host the 18th annual Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion Jan. 21-23.
The festival will involve 93 high school juniors and seniors from Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri and South Dakota in intensive work on large concert ensemble performance as well as chamber ensemble performance.
Each festival participant will perform in a chamber ensemble coached by a School of Music faculty member. They will also perform in an honor band and a large festival symphonic band that will include the UNL wind ensemble. Each participant was required to submit an audition tape that was judged by the School of Music wind and percussion faculty. The 93 students chosen represent 37 different high schools.
Highlights of the festival are a chamber ensemble recital at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and the finale concert at 3 p.m. Jan. 23, both in Kimball Recital Hall, 12th and R streets (extended). The finale concert will include performances by the honor band, the UNL wind ensemble and the festival symphonic band. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
