Lincoln, Neb., January 14th, 2005 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's biennial juried student textile exhibition runs through Jan. 28 at the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street and Center Drive on East Campus.

The show includes 24 works by 18 undergraduate and graduate students and is dominated by apparel design work. It was juried by Julie Diegle, director of the University Place Art Center, Julia Noyes, director of the Noyes Gallery, and Dan Siedel, curator of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.

"Some pieces are the epitome of simplicity, using broad swaths of fabric with stark contrasts in texture and color; others are much more nuanced and complex, integrating intricate stitching and embroidery with subtle colors and textures," Seidel said.

Jurors accepted into the show work that was completed in a wide range of UNL courses. Several pieces were ones students completed as part of the Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences, or UCARE, program.

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment. Visitor parking permits may be obtained in the departmental and college offices. Please call (402) 472-2911 for more information.

A reception for the students and announcement of awards will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 21 in the gallery. Robert Hillestad, emeritus professor of textiles, clothing and design at UNL, will present the awards from the Friends of the Gallery.
