WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005
WHERE: Cook Pavilion, 14th & W Streets
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and Technology will host "Discover Engineering 2005" Feb. 24, an event offering fifth- through eighth-graders from local middle schools the opportunity for a dynamic and hands-on introduction to several engineering disciplines. The event will be held the Cook Pavilion, 14th and W streets.
This year's activities include Robo-Lab, where students can program Lego vehicles to perform. Students will demonstrate how ice cream is made and share samples of ice cream from the UNL Dairy Store.
"Discover Engineering allows us to introduce young adults to aspects of engineering," said Kaylea Dunn, assistant director of college relations for the College of Engineering and Technology. "Oftentimes, people don't understand what engineering entails. By introducing math, science and problem-solving skills in a hands-on fashion, participants will see engineering in action."
The program begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. There is no cost to attend and a free lunch will be provided to students and teachers who register by Feb. 11. Lunch will also be available to parents who attend for $5. Campus parking is not available, but there are limited metered spots on 14th and W streets, and in the UNL lot at the northwest corner of 14th and W streets. School buses and large passenger vans can drop off passengers in front of Cook Pavilion and park for free near the entrance to State Fair Park, approximately three blocks away.
