WHERE: Mahoney State Park, Interstate 80 Exit 426
Communicating in groups and teams plays a significant role in today's business environment, and a March 16 seminar by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Management will address that process.
In "Creating and Managing Teams," Dawn Braithwaite, professor of communication studies at UNL, will explain the organizational conditions that foster teamwork, why people resist working in teams and how to overcome that resistance, how to apply team communication concepts to real teams, and how team member roles and leadership are developed.
The seminar will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mahoney State Park, off Interstate 80 Exit 426. To register or for details, call (402) 472-0860 or (800) 203-1523, e-mail business.seminars@unl.edu or visit www.mds.unl.edu on the World Wide Web. The registration deadline is March 10.
Braithwaite is the author of three books and dozens of articles, past president of the Western States Communication Association and director of the Research Board National Communication Association.
The UNL Department of Management will offer two other management development seminars in March that focus on communication skills. The others are "Communication in Difficult Situations" on March 23 (register by March 17) and "Creative Solutions in Management" on March 30 (register by March 24). They will also be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mahoney State Park and registration is available by phone, e-mail or online.
Any of these seminars can count toward completion of a UNL Business Seminars Management Development Certificate. Information on the three levels of certificates offered is available by telephone and on the Web site. Participation in the certificate program is not a requirement to attend the seminars.
