'Twister Sisters,' poet Mark Svenvold added to weather symposium slate

Lincoln, Neb., March 14th, 2005 —

The "Twister Sisters" and award-winning poet Mark Svenvold have been added to the program of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's 2004 Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium March 19 at Lincoln East High School, 1000 S. 70th St.

From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the "Twister Sisters," meteorologists Peggy Willenberg and Melanie Metz of St. Cloud (Minn.) State University will present "Tornado Chasing in Southeast Nebraska on May 22, 2004," which will include video footage of tornadoes. Willenberg and Metz appeared on ABC's Good Morning America last week and also appeared recently on FOX News and a National Geographic special.

Svenvold, who recently won the nation's Discovery Award for Poetry, will appear from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. The author of "Big Weather: Chasing Tornadoes in the Heart of America," an account of his travels with storm chasers, Svenvold will give a reading and provide a first-person description of what it's like to ride along with the nation's storm-chasing community.
