The Czech Language Foundation at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has developed partnerships with several individuals and organizations to fund scholarships for students of Czech language at UNL.
Twelve scholarships funded in this manner were awarded to first-year students last fall. Sixteen students in first-, second- and third-year classes received a foundation-partnered scholarship in the spring semester. The number of awards is the largest yet in the program. Each student received a scholarship of $300 to $350.
At least 25 scholarships will be available for the fall semester. Graduates from several Nebraska high schools are preferred recipients of several of the scholarships. These include schools in the cities of Hastings, Lincoln, Omaha, Wilber and York, and Gage, Jefferson and Saline counties.
The deadline for students to apply for the available fall-semester scholarships is April 22. There are no restrictions relative to the applicant's ethnicity. The application form is available from sponsoring UNL organizations, the Department of Modern Languages, UNL Scholarships and Financial Aid Office or online at the foundation Web site (www.unl.edu/CzechLanguageFoundation). High school counselors and UNL academic advisers can also access information for students.
The complete list of the scholarships is regularly updated on the Czech Language Foundation Web site.
