University of Nebraska-Lincoln students Cassidy Vineyard of North Platte and Abby Woodring of Blair were first-place winners at the Fashion Group International Career Day April 8 in Dallas.

Vineyard won first place and $300 for her DIFFA jacket, which was donated to Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS for fundraising events.

Woodring won first place and $250 for her trend board and also won second place and $300 for her original garment in the cotton category. In addition, she was one of five finalists chosen to compete for the Outstanding Student Designer Scholarship, awarded by the Dallas Fashion Group International.

Both are juniors and were among 25 students from the UNL Textiles, Clothing and Design Department to participate in the Career Day, which attracted students from 39 colleges and universities in an eight-state area.

The event offered students the chance to learn from and meet professionals in the textiles and apparel industry, and some students saw their apparel modeled by professional models for the first time. UNL students submitted 18 garments and 13 appeared on the runway.
