Broadcasting students winners at Northwest Broadcast News Association

Sixteen University of Nebraska-Lincoln broadcast journalism students won awards for achievements in general reporting, series, documentary, feature news and sports reporting at the Northwest Broadcast News Association conference April 1-2 in Bloomington, Minn.
Individual students who received awards included:
* Kim Bohling of Malcolm, first in series, student market radio, "Gambling With The Good Life";
* Brad Colee of Pocahontas, Iowa, award of merit in series, student market radio, "Wet vs. Dry";
* Kyle Doperalski of Wamego, Kan., first in sports play-by-play, student market radio, "Nebraska vs. Southern Miss";
* Shane Emery of Lincoln, award of merit in series, student market radio, "Wet vs. Dry";
* Ashley Finter of Papillion, first in documentary/special, student market television, "Against The Wind";
* Jessica Fleming of Blair, first in series, student market radio, "Gambling With The Good Life";
* Nate Gasaway of Omaha, first in documentary/special, student market television, "Against The Wind";
* Kurtis Harms of Dodge, award of merit in feature, student market radio, "Name Change";
* Carrie Johnson of Murdock, award of merit in general reporting, student market television, "Bulimia Problems";
* Savanna Kearl of Milford, award of merit in general reporting, student market radio, "Unemployment";
* Jessica Kinser of Lincoln, first in documentary/special, student market television, "Against The Wind";
* Julian Rodriguez of Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia, first in documentary/special, student market television, "Against The Wind";
* Andy Ross of Omaha, first in sports play-by-play, student market radio, "Nebraska vs. Southern Miss";
* Cole Stukenholtz of Bellevue, first in sports reporting, student market radio, "Husker Countdown"; and award of merit in series, student market radio, "Wet vs. Dry";
* Cody Thomas of Omaha, award of merit in series, student market radio, "Wet vs. Dry"; and
* Jeannine Wirth of Nebraska City, first in documentary/special, student market television, "Against The Wind".
NBNA, chartered in 1949, includes radio and television journalists in a six-state region, including Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
