Dipanjan Nag has been appointed interim assistant vice chancellor for technology development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The appointment is effective May 17.
As interim assistant vice chancellor for technology development, he will oversee the office that is responsible for identifying and commercializing intellectual property developed through research at UNL and leading economic development activities. He will serve on the senior management team of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies and will report to the vice chancellor for research and graduate studies.
Nag, who came to UNL in 2004 as a technology transfer associate, earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy at Jadavpur University in India, and an M.B.A. and a doctoral degree in biophysical chemistry, at UNL.
"I'm delighted that Dipanjan will lead our technology development efforts," said Prem Paul, UNL vice chancellor for research. "Dr. Nag's experience working in research laboratories and in working with licensing efforts will greatly benefit our faculty."
In 2004, Nag received one of two national awards from the Association for University Technology Managers. The Howard Bremer Scholarship, named for the founder of the association, recognizes outstanding new professionals in the field of university technology transfer. Criteria for selection include a demonstrated desire to establish a career in university technology transfer activities, a record of professional achievement and volunteer work with the association, a group of 3,000 technology managers and business executives.
Nag replaces Kannan Grant, who recently resigned the position. A national search for a permanent director is ongoing.
