Lincoln, Neb., July 14th, 2005 —

Twenty-eight students from high schools in Nebraska and nine other states will participate in the ninth annual Mathematics Summer Camp for High School Girls July 17-23 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The camp is designed to provide a stimulating and supportive environment for girls to develop their mathematical abilities and interests. Participants will take a weeklong course about the exciting mathematics of codes as well as minicourses on fractal geometry, aerodynamics and neighboring fractions.

The students will work with women mathematics professors and graduate students and interact with peers who share an interest in mathematics. They will stay in a UNL residence hall and be chaperoned by a female mathematics graduate student.

The All Girls/All Math Program at UNL (www.math.unl.edu/pi/outreach/agam) is one of 10 Young Scholars Programs across the nation that are supported by the American Mathematical Society. It was listed as an Editor's Choice for Best Value among summer college programs for high school students in the resource guide "Early College Programs" (www.earlycollege.com).

Following is a list by hometown of students scheduled to participate in the 2005 All Girls/All Math Program. The name of the student's high school is included in parentheses if it differs from the name of the town.
