Lincoln, Neb., August 25th, 2005 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering & Technology and the student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will host Women Interested in Engineering Day on Sept. 24.

The one-day conference was established in 1998 to encourage young women who are high school juniors and seniors to think about careers in engineering, while helping them reach their potential in math and science. Students who have attended past conferences are welcome to register again, as new events and activities are added each year.

This year's conference will include presentations and hands-on activities presented by UNL faculty and students to introduce young women to various engineering disciplines. Students will receive a tour of UNL and Nebraska Engineering's state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories and classrooms.

Parents are invited to join the conference for lunch and a presentation panel hosted by students, alumni, faculty and professional engineers.

The registration deadline is Sept. 9. Cost is $10 per student and $5 dollars per parent, which includes meals and parking. A full schedule of events and registration information is available at www.nuengr.unl.edu/cet/wiie05.html. Participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. For information, contact Kaylea Dunn at (402) 472-3060 or kdunn2@unl.edu.

In order to accommodate as many young women as possible, morning activities will be limited to students, teachers and counselors. However, parents are encouraged to attend the 12:15 p.m. luncheon and stay through the afternoon for the panel discussion and hands-on activities.
