Lincoln, Neb., September 6th, 2005 — The University Program Council at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will show a free outdoor viewing of the original "Batman" movie on Thursday, Sept. 8 on the Nebraska Union Greenspace (north side) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Food will be provided.

Directed by Tim Burton in 1989, this film was the first serious and dark version of Batman brought to the big screen. Burton's adaptation of the comic book hero has been the start for all the future sequels. The movie centers on the conflict between Batman (played in this movie by Michael Keaton) and the Joker (Jack Nicholson), a villain who is poisoning the people of Gotham City. Reporter Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) finds out that love interest Bruce Wayne is Batman, and together they try to work out a relationship. Jack Nicholson was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance.
