4 UNL students receive Beta Theta Pi scholarships

Lincoln, Neb., October 3rd, 2005 —

Four University of Nebraska-Lincoln students were awarded scholarships by the Beta Theta Pi Foundation at the fraternity's general convention in Scottsdale, Ariz., in August.

Jason M. Renner, a senior political science major from Lincoln, received the $2,000 David Linton Memorial Scholarship. Renner is a mentor at Hartley Elementary School, volunteers with Huskers Helping the Homeless, severs on the College of Arts and Sciences student advisory board and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Gregory J. Walklin, a senior English and news-editorial major, received the $2,000 John Reily Knox Memorial Scholarship. Walklin is on the College of Journalism and Mass Communications student advisory board, volunteers with Arc of Lincoln, is a mentor in the Beta Buddies mentoring program and is a member of the Innocents Society.

John F. Wood, a senior political science major from Omaha received the $1,300 Todd Elias Memorial Scholarship. Wood is in Air Force ROTC, serves on the College of Arts and Sciences student advisory board, participates in the Beta Buddies service program is a member of the Order of Omega.

Matthew T. Roby, a senior accounting major from Watertown, S.D., received the $3000 H. Hiram Stephenson Oxford Cup Scholarship. Roby volunteers in the Beta Buddies mentoring program, serves on the College of Business Administration student advisory board and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma national business honor society.
