Physics & Astronomy awards $36,000 in scholarships

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Physics and Astronomy has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to its undergraduate majors for the 2005-06 academic year.
Awards were made to 23 students, with an average award of $1,565. The awards are in addition to other universitywide awards that the students may have won.
"The academic performance of the physics and astronomy scholarship recipients is impressive," said Stephen Ducharme, professor of physics and the department's scholarships coordinator. "Continuing students have an average GPA of 3.7. First-year students have an average ACT score of 32 and average high-school class rank of 97 percent."

NEBRASKA
Alliance: Aaron Watkins, Hirsch Scholarship, $1,500.
Bellevue: Ananda Fife Griffith, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500.
Columbus: Zachary Wolff, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500.
Geneva: Timothy Scarborough, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500.
Grand Island: Stephanie Gilbert, Marvin Scholarship, $1,500.
Lincoln: Nathan Chandler-Smith, Harkson and Marvin scholarships, $2,000; Ryo Namba, Almy and Stebbins Fund scholarships, $1,500; Levi Neukirch, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500; Masatoshi Shoji, Almy and Stebbins Fund scholarships, $1,500; Lauren Thacker-Lynn, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500; Daniel Williams, Katkanant Memorial and Stowell Fund scholarships, $1,500.
Omaha: Charles Beer, Stebbins Fund and Stowell Fund scholarships, $1,500; Laurel Burk, Meyer Physics and Stowell Fund scholarships, $1,500; Christopher Corder, Hirsch and Marvin scholarships, $1,500; Alicia Gilmore, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500.
Papillion: Ceceilia Hedrick, Stowell Fund Scholarship, $1,500.
Spalding: James Carraher, Hirsch Scholarship, $1,500.
Waco: Kyle Scheele, Marvin Scholarship, $2,000.
