Rural policy seminar statewide Nov. 9

Lincoln, Neb., October 31st, 2005 —

Rural Policy and Leadership is the theme of a statewide public policy forum Nov. 9 when participants will hear from current and former office holders and experts on rural and agricultural policy issues. The forum is by the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center as part of the Thomas C. Sorensen Forum for Political Leadership, and will be held Nov. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. (5:30-7 MST).

Forum participants are Ray Aguilar, Nebraska District 35 state senator; Rick Foster, Vice President for Programs at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Mich.; Doug Kristensen, Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Kearney and former Speaker of the Unicameral; and Sandy Scofield, Director of the Nebraska Rural Initiative at the University of Nebraska. Bill Kelly, Executive Producer for news and public affairs at the Nebraska ETV Network and creator of the weekly news program STATEWIDE, will be the moderator.

Attendees will have a chance to explore issues surrounding leadership for rural policy changes, the meaning and implications of agricultural policy versus rural policy and lawmakers' perceptions of rural policy.

This seminar, free to the public, will be broadcast to 14 sites across the state via the NebSat satellite network from UNL. Participants will have the opportunity to call a toll-free number to ask questions live.

The forum is co-sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Arts and Sciences and the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center.
