11 to receive military commissions in Dec. 17 ceremony

Lincoln, Neb., December 15th, 2005 —

Eleven University of Nebraska-Lincoln students who have participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps at UNL are scheduled to receive commissions in the U.S. Army, Air Force or Navy on Dec. 17.

Following UNL commencement exercises, a joint commissioning ceremony involving the three service branches will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St., where UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman will address the new officers.

Each branch will also have a separate commissioning ceremony. The Air Force ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Nebraska Union auditorium, while the Army and Navy ceremonies will follow the joint ceremony on Dec. 17 in the Nebraska Union.

Following is a list of candidates by hometown, with their service branch and rank at which they will be commissioned.

Bellevue: Jessica Lynn Lemke, Air Force, second lieutenant.

Crawford: Kent Courtney Moody, Air Force, second lieutenant.

Hickman: Ronnie R. Smith II, Air Force, second lieutenant.

Papillion: Mark Edward Dreiling, Air Force, second lieutenant.

Raymond: Lori Ann Brophy, Air Force, second lieutenant.

Council Bluffs, Iowa: Abby Rae Schmitz, Army, second lieutenant.

Ellsworth, Minn.: Janelle Valarie Jenniges Palatas, Air Force, second lieutenant.
