Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion is Jan. 20-22

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music will host the 19th annual Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion Jan. 20-22 at Westbrook Music Building and Kimball Recital Hall on the UNL City Campus.

The festival will involve 90 high school juniors and seniors from Nebraska, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin in intensive work on large concert and chamber ensembles. Each participant will perform in a chamber ensemble coached by a School of Music faculty member, an honor band and a large festival symphonic band that will include the UNL Wind Ensemble.

Highlights of the festival are a chamber ensemble recital at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 and the finale concert at 3 p.m. Jan. 22, both in Kimball Recital Hall, 11th and R streets (extended). The finale concert will include performances by the honor band, the UNL Wind Ensemble and the festival symphonic band. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The students were required to submit an audition tape that was judged by the UNL wind and percussion faculty. The 90 students chosen represent 42 high schools. A list students by high school follows. The student's hometown is included in parentheses if is not included in the name of the school.
