This year's Homecoming Week at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be from Oct. 29 through Nov. 4, culminating with the Cornhuskers' home football game vs. Missouri at Memorial Stadium.
The dates were set by the homecoming steering committee of the ASUN student government at UNL. Omaid Zabih, president of ASUN, said the next step is for UNL students to establish a theme for the week.
"Increased student participation is one of our overall goals for homecoming 2006," Zabih said. "We invite students to e-mail ideas for a theme to asun1@unl.edu. The homecoming steering committee will choose the top three themes and the student body will be able to vote online for its choice by using Blackboard. The student who enters the winning theme will receive a $100 prize."
Athletic Director Steve Pedersen applauded the choice of the Missouri game for Nebraska's 96th homecoming.
"homecoming is always a special week on campus, culminated by the football game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday," he said. "It's very appropriate that our homecoming game this year will be played against Missouri, one of our traditional opponents from the old Big Eight Conference."
