The annual Nebraska Economics Challenge, pitting high school teams from across the state in a competition to determine who has the greater knowledge of economics, will be April 1 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The competition will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Esther S. Kauffman Center, 14th and U streets.
Teams from across the state will try to unseat the defending state champions from 2005, Norris and Elkhorn high schools. Teams will compete in one of two divisions for four rounds. The first three rounds focus on the broad range of economics issues from an international and national view to individual decision making behavior. Following the first three rounds, the top two teams in each division will advance to a fast-paced quiz bowl to determine the two winning teams.
The two state champion teams advance to the regional competition in Minneapolis on April 23. The winning team from the Regional Economics Challenge competition will compete in the National Economics Challenge, in New York City.
The Nebraska Economics Challenge is hosted by the UNL Center for Economic Education and is sponsored by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the economic literacy of Nebraska's students, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City-Omaha Branch, the National Council on Economic Education, and Goldman Sachs. The goal of the Nebraska Council on Economic Education is achieved through economic education programs, courses and workshops for educators across the state.
