University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman presented the annual Chancellor's Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community March 28.
These awards recognize outstanding efforts by an individual or an organization to create an inclusive, respectful, and safe climate for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The recipient of the faculty/staff award was Debra Hope, professor of psychology. Hope co-teaches psychology of diversity, and developed and taught a new summer reading course in 2005 on the psychology of sexual orientation. She is coordinator of UNL's 54th annual Symposium on Motivation, "Contemporary Perspectives on Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Identities," March 30-31 at the Nebraska Union.
The student award was presented to a group of students who restructured the governing system of Spectrum, the GLBT and ally student organization, now renamed the Queer Student Alliance. The Spectrum/Queer Student Alliance transition leaders are Emily Dvorak, Ryan Fette, Allen Ratliff, Shoshana Sumrall, Rachael Stern, Azure Wall and Amy Winkenwerder. The new structure has strengthened the organization and allowed more student members to be involved in its leadership.
