Lincoln, Neb., April 24th, 2006 —

Approximately 4,500 students will be moving out of University of Nebraska-Lincoln residence halls the first week of May, with most of the movement concentrated into Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5.

Visitors to Lincoln and to UNL City campus, and local residents should be advised that traffic in the P Street to Holdrege areas, from 14th to 16th streets, will be congested, particularly from noon to 6:30 p.m. on May 4-5. Barriers will be placed in 17th Street blocking one lane on the west side from R Street to Vine Street. Additionally, barriers will be placed on 16th Street blocking one lane of traffic on the east side from Vine Street to R Street. There will be traffic control on 14th Street in the congested area west of the Harper Schramm Smith complex on Thursday and Friday.

"We like to be proactive and remind people that this area, this time of year, is congested because students are moving," said Ina Sivits Luhring, UNL coordinator for Residence Hall Administration. "Combined with the Antelope Valley construction, motorists and visitors should know that if they must come near City Campus, please plan for delays and longer travel times."

Visitors to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for May 6 commencement should keep the Antelope Valley Project construction in mind. To park east or north of the Devaney Center, they should use the 27th Street entrance to State Fair Park. Parking west of the Devaney Center will be accessible via 14th Street, with the easiest approach from the north.
