Late summer skies featured Aug. 25 at Student Observatory

Lincoln, Neb., August 22nd, 2006 —

Weather permitting, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Student Observatory's series of fall public nights kicks off from 8:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, with the opportunity to see the planets Mars, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus, as well as more-distant attractions of the late summer sky. Jupiter and its moons will be best seen early in the evening.

There is no charge for admission to the observatory and children of all ages are particularly welcome. Astronomers on hand to answer questions, and telescopes will be available for children to use.

The observatory will not be open if it is mostly cloudy. If in doubt about the weather, call the observatory at (402) 472-4728.

The UNL Student Observatory is located on the roof of the Stadium Drive Parking Garage, 10th and T streets. Parking is available on the roof of the garage.
