"Leadership to Connect, Empower and Grow" is the theme of the fall Cather Circle meeting Oct. 19-20 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
Sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, Cather Circle is a prestigious mentoring program for outstanding women students and distinguished alumnae of UNL. Its meetings are open only to current members. For information on future memberships and internships, visit the circle's Web site (www.cathercircle.com).
Annemarie Segaric, professional coach and motivational speaker, will give the keynote address Oct. 19. Segaric is the author of "107 Tips for Changing Your Career While Still Paying the Bills," and the monthly e-zine, Working Effortlessly, dedicated to helping people making career changes.
The meeting, which focuses on leadership skills for all of life's stages, will also include a presentation about Cather Circle's role in providing internships for its student members. Cather Circle coordinator Shelley Zaborowski said the meeting will challenge alumnae to make opportunities available to students in creative, unique ways and encourage collegians to take advantage of these opportunities.
"These hands-on, real-life experiences are vital to students' success as they map out their career goals and search for those first jobs," she said.
Cather Circle provided two grants to students who took unpaid internships during the spring and summer. This ongoing program will accept applications again in February. Dozens of internships and job shadowing opportunities have also been made available to Cather Circle members since the organization's inception in 1999.
"Cather Circle is all about making connections through networking, empowering women to succeed and growing personally and professionally," Zaborowski said. "We can accomplish this by fine-tuning our leadership skills in our workplaces and our communities."
