Student tailgate event searches for "The Ultimate Student Fan"

Students and administrators from across the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus have collaborated on a new tradition that is popular at other Big 12 schools. On Oct. 20, University Housing, Campus Recreation, Student Involvement, the University Bookstore, and ASUN Student Government will host "The Ultimate Student Tailgate" event from 3:30 to 8 p.m. in the Husker Village recreation area at 14th and Avery streets.

The event includes an open house and celebration of the new recreational area, which includes tennis and basketball courts. There will also be tours of the apartments in Husker Village. Free food, including "Bevo Barbeque" provided by Skeeter Barnes restaurants, will be available to all students at 4:30. The Red Rally, a pep rally featuring the UNL spirit squad, pep band, and school mascots, will follow the meal. Radio station KFRX will also have music and a live broadcast from the site. The first 1,000 students receive a rally towel from the University Bookstore.

Event organizers have added an "Ultimate Student Husker Fan" contest to the evening, inviting any UNL students to arrive by 5:30 in full fan gear ready to give their best minute of cheers or songs to a group of judges, who will select a winner by the end of the evening. The newly crowned "Ultimate Student Fan" will get guest coach privileges at the Nebraska vs. Texas game Oct. 21, along with other prizes.
