UNL to Host Information Technology Security Day

Lincoln, Neb., November 22nd, 2006 —

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in collaboration with the Information Services Office of the state of Nebraska, will present the third annual Nebraska Information Technology Security Day Nov. 30.

The event, free and open to the public, is in the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St. Presentations will be made by members of the staffs of the Computer Science and Engineering departments of the University of Nebraska, the Information Services department of UNL and the CIO Office of the state of Nebraska. Students in security and cryptography and representatives from industry will also make presentations.

The keynote speaker will be Jim Treinen from IBM's Global Services, who will speak on "Managed Security Service Delivery." Other topics for the day include: What is Cryptography and Why Is it Needed Today?; Pretty Good Privacy; Packet Sniffing; What Is Steganography? Digital Watermarking; Kerberos and Authentication; Financial Cryptography; Vulnerability Threat Monitoring; Biometrics in Security; Security in the Application Development Lifecycle; and Identity Management.

In 2005, more than 150 people attended Nebraska Information Technology Security Day. Registration is available online at www.cse.unl.edu/~nitsday. On the day of the conference, registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and events will commence at 9:00 a.m.
