Business seminar to examine changing role of modern manager

Lincoln, Neb., January 31st, 2007 —

Managers and business owners will have an opportunity to learn about an innovative approach to managing in today's workplace Feb. 21 when Fred Luthans, professor of management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, presents a seminar titled "Role of the Modern Manager: A New Positive Approach."

Luthans' approach is based on positive psychology and what he calls psychological capital, or PsyCap. In the seminar, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Ferguson Center, 700 S. 16th St., Luthans will explain approaches and techniques to succeed in today's environment, including:

* Understanding how to go beyond human and social capital;

* Finding out what is meant by the new psychological capital;

* Learning how to invest in and develop your own and your people's psychological capital; and

* Learning how to measure psychological capital and determine the return on development.

Luthans has authored or co-authored more than 30 books and 150 articles on management, including the widely used textbooks "Organizational Behavior" (10th edition) and "International Management" (sixth edition).
