WHERE: Wick Alumni Center, 1520 R Street
Groundbreaking for the Bob Foehlinger Memorial Fountain in the Wick Alumni Center's Holling Garden will highlight the Student Alumni Association's third annual Spaghetti Splash March 2.
The first two spaghetti dinner events raised $43,000 for construction and maintenance of the fountain memorial honoring Foehlinger, the former SAA president, Cornhusker Marching Band twirler and student leader who died in 2003. This year's event is expected to put the fund over the top in meeting its $50,000 goal.
The groundbreaking begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 5 p.m. in the Wick Center, 1520 R St. Entertainment will be provided by the UNL Pep Band; the Bathtub Dogs, UNL men's a cappella group; and the Stepper-ettes, a baton twirling group led by Foehlinger's mother, Sue.
Tickets are $5 and may be purchased online at www.bobby.huskeralum.com, at the Wick Alumni Center, or by calling (888) 353-1874 or (402) 472-2841. Additionally, the association is accepting donations for the memorial project. They can be made online or by calling the alumni association.
The Bob Foehlinger Memorial Fountain is part of a larger renovation of the Holling Garden that will include a Life Endowment Wall, featuring names of life members and sustaining life members who have donated $1,000 or more since September 2004.
Nebraska Alumni Association (www.huskeralum.com) programs are developed in support of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and funded by member dues and corporate partnerships. The association is an independent organization that receives no state or tuition dollars.
